FRED SIMMONS

Fred Simmons, 69, of 706 Force Dive, Goldsboro, passed away on Monday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
A service of remembrance will be held on Monday at 12:30 at Central Heights FWB Church, after which the E.M. Matthews Classic Angelic White Fleet will escort Mr. Simmons's earthen vessel, along with his adored family to Old Mill Cemetery for interment rites. For it is in this earthly consign that Mr. Simmons will remain until that great day when all of God's children will rise up to meet the Savior and be with Him forever in paradise.
He was born on Oct. 11, 1941, to the late Braxton and Sarah Exum Simmons in Lenoir County. Fred attended the Lenior County Schools. He was a dedicated employee of the North Carolina Department of Transportation, where he worked for more than 32 years.
Beautiful memories will forever be etched in the hearts of many, such as his wife, Delores Bryant Simmons; one son, Franklin Simmons of Sennesaw, Ga.; two daughters, Shelia Thomas of Goldsboro, and Leigh (Angelo) Monroe of the home; three grandchildren, Ebony Thomas, Jevonte' Simmons and Christian Simmons all of Goldsboro; two great-grandchildren, Cameron Doubt and Kivion McClaren; five sisters, Vera Yelverton of Goldsboro, Jane Lee Barner of New York, Ester Hassel, Barbara Kelly and Dalphine Purvis all of Brooklyn, N.Y.; one brother McLean Simmons of Goldsboro; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held this evening from 4 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
