AMOS ELBERT LONG

KENANSVILLE -- Amos Elbert Long, 70, of 124 Bowden Drive, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Friday, March 4, 2011.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today, March 6, 2011, at Community Funeral Home Chapel in Warsaw. Burial will follow the service in Golden Grove Cemetery.
Mr. Long was born March 11, 1940, in Bladen County to the late William Elbert Long and Ruby Sykes Long.
Mr. Long leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted wife of 52 years, Betty Crumpler Long of the home; a daughter, Tina and son-in-law, John of Clinton; and the apples of his eye, Abbigail and John Litton Clark Jr., his grandchildren; sisters, Judy Long Carraway of Apex, Christine Long Cashwell of Garland, and Iris Long Smith of Hope Mills.
Elbert was a longtime resident of Kenansville, where he spent 40 years in the textile industry, 27 years with Reeves Brothers then opening Long's Fashions in Faison.
Elbert developed a reputation of being the best sewing machine mechanic in the region, and 11 years ago when he became a granddaddy he became the best granddaddy in the world.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Long was preceded in death by brothers, Thomas Long and Bobby Long and sister, Carlene Long Petty.
A visitation was Saturday from 7 until 9 p.m. at Community Funeral Home of Warsaw, Inc.
