DUDLEY -- Jackie "J.B." Broadie departed this life Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011, at his home.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011, at 1 p.m. at Eastern Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 1401 N. Carolina St., Goldsboro. Interment will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Dudley.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. at Smith-Holloway Memorial Funeral Services' Bishop Lonnie E. Holloway Memorial Chapel, 1220 N. William St., Goldsboro. The family will be present from 6 to 7 p.m.
Jackie was born Jan. 13, 1952, to the late Ivory and Lucinda Broadie.
He attended Wayne County schools, and graduated from Southern Wayne High School in 1973.
He was preceded in death by four siblings, Mary Alice, Louis Howard, Melvin and Ivory Joseph Broadie.
Jackie was employed by Georgia Pacific Nov. 11, 1977, as a No. 2 saw operator until his passing. He loved working for the company, and shared good times with many good friends.
Jackie was a lifelong farmer, and spent most of his free time tending his livestock.
Jackie was a fun-loving father, grandfather, brother and uncle.
He leaves a wonderful legacy of love, happiness and friendship to all who knew him.
Jackie is survived by a son, Douglas Broadie of Goldsboro; a daughter, Jacquline (Jimmie) Filbeck of South Carolina; three adopted children, Sh-Shauna Thompson (Brian), Shelton Smith and Monica Broadie all of Goldsboro; three brothers, Charles (Diane) Broadie of Greensboro, Vernon (Hilda) Broadie of Dudley and Thomas (Gerald) Martin of Grantham; and two sisters, Teresa Lee of Dudley and Helen Lois (Marilyn) Ransom of Goldsboro.
He also leaves four grandchildren, Jasmine and Jamal Lucas of Charleston, S.C., Ashyia Broadie and Destiny Darden of Goldsboro, and a host of nieces and nephews.
