GLADYS BATCHELOR

HAMPSTEAD -- Jan. 9, 2011, Gladys Batchelor went peacefully in her sleep from this life to her eternal life with her Lord and savior, Jesus Christ.

She was born March 5, 1909, in Parmalee, N.C.

She lived 101 full years. She was the seventh of eight children born to Jesse and Mimmie Whitaker Jenkins.

She is survived by a loving family including daughters, Millie Wolfe of Charlotte and Eleanor Sasser and husband, Leroy, of Sneads Ferry; son, Rex Spurgin and wife, Earle "Babe," of Greenville; grandchildren, Tom Wolfe and wife, Debbie, of Charlotte, Wendy Wolfe of Charlotte, Linda Baker and husband, Richard "Bake," of North Topsail Beach and Pamela Lawhon of Goldsboro; granddaughter-in-law, Beth Sasser Collins, married to Paul Collins of Raleigh; great-grandchildren, Buddy Baker, Adam Baker, David and wife, Stephanie Burroughs, Daniel Burroughs, Darren Baker, Benjamin Sasser, Mason Collins, Gena Collins, Jacob Lawhon and Jordan Lawhon.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Joseph Sasser (deceased 2005.)

She was loved by all who knew her. She lived to tell others of God's love for them. She had a profound understanding of God's grace. Her smile and laugh will truly be missed.

The family would like to thank the many people who loved and cared for Gladys. They include Hospice, Woodbury Wellness and the special team of ladies who cared for her around the clock the past seven months. A big thank you and hug. May God's richest blessing be on you all.

Visitation will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Rock Church in Tarboro, N.C. Service will follow at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery
