MOUNT OLIVE-- James Glenn "Jim" Gufford, 60, 116 Valley Road, died Friday morning, Nov. 5, at home.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, at Tyndall Funeral Home, with the Rev. Doug Bartlett officiating, and Shelton Rhodes as eulogist. Burial will follow in Wilson Cemetery near Calypso with military honors as well as Masonic rites.

He was a Vietnam veteran of the United States Army, having received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.

He was a member of American Legion Post 103 in Mount Olive, Maxwell's Mill Post of the VFW and St. John's Masonic Lodge No. 13 in Kenansville.

In years past, he had been a military policeman, and was currently employed with the United States Department of Agriculture with a long tenure of service as a tobacco inspector through its Raleigh office.

Mr. Gufford is survived by his wife, Betty Ann Roberts Gufford of the home; two daughters, Angela Dawn Bass of Smithfield and Stephanie Ann Bass of Mount Olive; his mother, Louise P. Alphin of Mount Olive; a sister, Nancy Haney of Mount Olive; a brother, Joe Alphin and wife, Candy, of Pink Hill; and his four-legged "son," Leabeau or "Bo-Bo."

He was preceded in death by his father, James Gufford; his stepfather, Ben Frank Alphin; a brother, W.T. Gufford; and his parents-in-law, Rodell and Estene Roberts.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home during the hour before the service, and at the home at other times.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children, c/o Sudan Temple, P.O. Drawer 490, New Bern, N.C., 28560; or First Pentecostal Holiness Church, 130 Ed Edmundson Road, Mount Olive, N.C., 28365.
