RALEIGH -- Retired Air Force chief master sergeant Dwight Waco Mayo Jr., 69, formerly of Goldsboro, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2010.
Born in Booneville, Miss., he was the son of the late Dwight W. Sr. and Ruby Saylors Mayo.
Dwight held master's degrees in vocational rehabilitation and educational management, and was a licensed professional counselor.
He was a member of St. Francis Episcopal Church in Goldsboro, and enjoyed bridge, playing cards and traveling with his wife within the "Grey Eagles" travel group.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Nancy M. Mayo of Raleigh; children: Wesley Mayo and wife, Shawn, of Frankenmuth, Mich., and Wayne Mayo, of Grafton, Va.; stepchildren: Tammy Jaite and husband, Robert, of Brecksville, Ohio, Dr. Jeffrey Frazier and wife, Wendy, of Fredericksburg, Va., and Mary Vann Roberson and husband, Bryan, of Raleigh; and grandchildren, Kyle Mayo, Caleb Saunders, Blair, Mary Grace and Ashley Frazier, Brandon and Brianna Mayo, Evan and Abby Jaite, Blanton and Davis Roberson and Stephen Wayne Mayo.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010, at 2 p.m. at St. Francis Episcopal Church, 503 Forest Hill Drive in Goldsboro, N.C. Family will receive friends in the church hall following the committal service at the church columbarium, with military honors.
