GOLDSBORO -- Richard Freeman "Dick" Griswold Jr., 78, died at home with his family Sunday morning.
Funeral services will be held at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church Wednesday at 11 a.m., with visitation to follow at the home. At other times, the family will receive friends at the home.
Mr. Griswold, the only son of Margaret Pickard and Richard Freeman Griswold Sr. of Goldsboro, attended Goldsboro city schools and was a 1953 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
He graduated from United States Navy Officer's Candidate School, and served three years active duty, and attended North Carolina State University in civil engineering and construction.
He worked for T.A. Loving Co., then for American Savings and Loan from 1964 to 1987. In later years he was self-employed in remodeling and furniture repair.
He served on a number of city, county, civic and church boards, and for many years was treasurer of the Girl Scout Council. Most recently, he greatly enjoyed his membership in Golden K Kiwanis Club.
Mr. Griswold is survived by his wife of 55 years, Margaret Ann Hawkins Griswold; his daughter, Margaret and husband, Dr. Barry Teasley; his daughter, Pickett and husband, Chris Smith; grandchildren, Truett and Christopher Smith; and devoted family friends, Layton Getsinger and wife, Jane.
Flowers are welcome and memorials may be made to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 200 N. James St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.
