DOROTHY BYRD

Dorothy Sauls Byrd, 73, died Sunday after a long battle with heart disease.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. from the chapel of Howell Funeral Home in Goldsboro. Burial will follow at Wayne Memorial Park.
She was a devout Christian, and a charter member of Goldsboro Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church.
She was born in Wayne County to the late Walter and Chellie Sauls, and was married to the late Frank Byrd of Mount Olive.
Dorothy was retired from RG Barry Corp., Nikki Knits and Mount Olive Sportswear.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers, Wesley and Marvin Sauls.
She is survived by her son; a very special daughter-in-law, and grandson, David, Melinda and Dylan Byrd. In addition, she is survived by two sisters, Winnie Lee Howell of Pikeville and Grace and Pete Edwards of Dudley. She is survived by two brothers, Brantley and Ann Sauls of Richmond, Va., and Floyd and Susan Sauls of Grantham. She had several nieces and nephews.
Dorothy loved her church. She was a hard worker for the Lord, and spent much of her time involved in special activities with the church. She was a ladies auxiliary member and a choir member, and worked with many committees within the church.
She enjoyed shopping, eating out and vacationing with her family.
Dorothy had a very special extended family, the Wheeler and Anderson families. Her neighbors were very special to her also.
The family will receive family and friends this evening (Tuesday) from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro, and other times at the home of David and Melinda Byrd, 1039 Spring Bank Road in Goldsboro.
