LUCAMA -- James Batchelor Jr., 86, Lucama, died Tuesday.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 29, at 7 p.m. at Joyner's Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service, and other times at the residence.
A graveside service will be held Friday, July 30, at 11 a.m. at Thompson's Chapel Pentecostal Church, with the Rev. Ricky Nelms and the Rev. Marvin Smith officiating.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, loved by all who knew him, and a devoted family man.
He was a retired farmer, and instilled strong moral values in his family led by his example. He was also known for his unending generosity. He adored the presence of children, and openly showed his love for them.
He is now in heaven to join the Lord and his family he loved so dearly.
Mr. Batchelor is survived by his wife of 68 years, Hazel Lee Lucas Batchelor; nine children, Thomas Earl Batchelor of Lucama, Donald Ray Batchelor and wife, Joyce, of Middlesex, Brenda B. Lynch and husband, Donnie, of Elm City, James W. Batchelor and wife, Helen, of Wilson, Bernice B. Bunn and husband, Jay, of Lucama, Ronnie Batchelor and wife, Marsha, of Smithfield, Phillip Batchelor and wife, Patricia, of Lucama, Deborah B. Mangum and husband, Nelson, of Lucama and Michael Batchelor and wife, Terri, of Wilson; 17 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; a sister, Blanche Murphrey of Wilson; a sister-in-law, Mary Batchelor Pulley of Wilson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Hubert "Jim" Batchelor and Alice Elizabeth Parker Batchelor; a son, James Lee Batchelor; two sisters, Addie Carpenter and Gladys Smith; and a brother, Wallace Batchelor.
Flowers are welcome or memorials in his memory may be directed the charity of one's choice. Special donations will be made in memory of James Batchelor Jr. to Community Homecare and Hospice, 1604 Forest Hills Road, Wilson, N.C., 27893, for their loving actions and understanding support of the family.
Special thanks are given to Community Homecare and Hospice, and also the nurses on the west wing of the second floor at Wilson Medical Center.
