HIRAM LISTON GRICE
March 8, 1929-June 20, 2010
SUMTER, S.C. -- Hiram Liston Grice, age 81, beloved husband of 61 years to Veronica Bradshaw Grice, died Sunday, June 20, 2010, at his residence.
Born March 8, 1929, in Duplin County, N.C., he was the son of the late Liston Elworth Grice and Julia Alice Barwick Grice.
He retired from the United States Air Force as a master sergeant with 23 years of dedicated service, serving during World War II, Korean Conflict and Vietnam. During active duty, he was an instructor of jet engine mechanics. He was the proud recipient of the Commendation Medal from Alabama Gov. George Wallace.
Following his military career, he retired from Campbell Soup Co. with 13 years of service.
He was a member of the American Legion and Bethesda Church of God.
Mr. Grice was a Christian man and served in many capacities as deacon, teacher, Sunday school superintendent and as pastor for many months of the Sumter Pentecostal Holiness Church.
He was a faithful man, faithful to his country, wife, son, friend and most importantly, his God.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Rudi Edward Grice of Sumter; nieces; nephews; great-nieces; and great-nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, two sisters, Margaret Alice Grice Lancaster and Katie Reba Grice Satterfield; and a brother, Jesse Wade Grice.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 25, 2010, in Bullock Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. Al Sims, the Rev. Howard Owens and the Rev. Neil DuBose officiating.
Active pallbearers will be the United States Air Force. Entombment with full military honors will follow in Sumter Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Bullock Funeral Home Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m.
