Roy Eugene Riddick, our "Papa Stu," passed away peacefully to go home to be with the Lord.
Funeral services were Saturday at 1 p.m. at Grifton Free Will Baptist Church on Wall Street in Grifton, with visitation an hour prior at noon. Graveside services were held at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Goldsboro following the service.
He passed away on a beautiful morning at Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville on May 6, 2010. He was a resident of Grifton, and lived with his daughter, Christine Riddick Griffin, and her family. He especially loved spending time with his family and rocking on the front porch.
Born in Belvoir, Aug. 18, 1930, and raised in Tarboro, he served his country after gradution with pride in the United States Air Force. He retired honorably after serving in Vietnam and 20 years of service. He also retired from the North Carolina Department of Corrections with over 20 years of service. He was married, devoted to and loved Toyoko Kinoshita Riddick for 29 years. He never left her side after her five-year battle with ovarian cancer. He was a loyal and committed family man, proud soldier, and dedicated state employee. Most of all, he was loved.
He is survived by three children, Victor Eugene Riddick, his wife, Karin, and their two children, Justin and Ella, Christine Riddick Griffin, her husband, Michael, and their two children, Seth and Meghan, and Roy Van Riddick. He is also survived by a younger sister, Peggy Bond, her husband, Billy, and their two children, Dawn Ackley and Daniel Bond.
The family will receive visitors at the home.
