JERRY HARRIS

LAGRANGE -- Robert Jerry Harris, 76, of LaGrange, passed away Tuesday at his home.
Jerry was raised at Kennedy Home and later served with the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Jerry established Harris Insurance Agency in 1961 and retired following 37 years of service. He was a member of LaGrange Rotary Club and was appointed to the N.C. Governor's Highway Safety Commission. He served on the board of directors for Wachovia Bank, Lenoir Memorial Hospital, Lenoir County Red Cross and the Lenoir County Industrial Commission. Jerry was a longtime member of Beston United Methodist Church and was presently a member of LaGrange Christian Church. He was instrumental in the development of the Village of Walnut Creek. Jerry enjoyed traveling and was an avid fan of Wake Forest University and the Washington Redskins.
Jerry was preceded in death by his first wife, Peggy Garris Harris.
A service of remembrance will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. from Rouse Funeral Home with the Rev. Gerald Stacy officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
Jerry had a great love of his family and is survived by his wife of 16 years, Mary Lou Ward Harris; daughter, Tracy Harris Gray of Raleigh; grandson, Trey Gray of Raleigh; three step-children, Doug Broughton and wife, Bobbie, of Smithfield, George F. Whitfield III of Goldsboro, Tyler Whitfield Beliveau and husband, Jon, of Goldsboro; four step-grandchildren, Doug Broughton Jr. and wife, Tiffany, of Four Oaks, Matt Broughton and wife, Sherri, of Selma, Nicholas Beliveau and Lucas Beliveau, both of Goldsboro; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Madison and Tanner Broughton.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home and at other times they will be at the home. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rouse
