BILLY R. KORNEGAY

Billy Ray Kornegay was born Feb. 21, 1959, in Wayne County. Mr. Kornegay quietly entered into eternal rest Tuesday.

Celebration of life services for Mr. Kornegay will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at New Spirit Church Ministries, 1501 N. William St. in Goldsboro. Apostle Deborah Kornegay will provide words of comfort. Following the services in the sanctuary, the E. M. Matthews classic angelic white fleet will escort Mr. Kornegay's earthly temple, along with his precious family, to Old Mill Cemetery for committal rites.

He was the son of the late Eddie and Margaret Wooten Kornegay of Goldsboro, who preceded him in death.

He was raised in North End Community and graduated from Dillard High School in 1968. Billy moved to Washington, D.C. in the 1970s and was employed for D.C. Metro for many years. He moved back to Goldsboro during the 1990s and lived here until his death.

He leaves to cherish his memories a son, Billy Hamm of Goldsboro; a daughter, Tamika Brown of Washington, D.C.; five sisters, pastor Linda Faye Sauls, evangelist Rachel Kornegay, minister Margaret K. Johnson and Sadie K. Vaughn all of Goldsboro and minister Shelvy K. Thomas of Winston-Salem; five brothers, James Jimmy Hinnant of Rochester, N.Y., Eddie Jr. of Washington, D.C., and Jerry Kornegay, Bruce Kornegay and David Anthony Kornegay of Goldsboro; in-laws, Ethel Hinnant, apostle Deborah Kornegay, Sharon Kornegay and William Vaughn; a very close friend, Lillie Robinson Brown of Washington, D.C.; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation for Billy Ray Kornegay will be held at E. M. Matthews Funeral Home and Cremations Inc. Saturday from 2 to 8 p.m.

The president and staff of E.M. Matthews Funeral Home and Cremations are attending to the needs, details, concerns and providing consolation to the Kornegay and connected families during this difficult time.

The family will receive friends at Mr. Kornegay's sister Sadie's house at 105 Neil St. in Goldsboro tonight after 5 and throughout the entire day Saturday.

Mr. Kornegay's earthen vessel is peacefully resting at E.M. Matthews Funeral Home and Cremations Inc., 401 N. William St. in Goldsboro, 735-2775, www.emmatthewsfuneral home.com.
