Lawrence Lee Gerald Sr. was born in Wayne County on Dec. 1, 1933, to Robert Lee Gerald Sr. and Virginia Robinson Gerald. On Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010, the Angel of the Lord descended from Heaven and came down to the bedside of Mr. Gerald in Wayne Memorial Hospital to usher him home to the other side, where he now resides in the Paradise of God.
A service of remembrance will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 18, 2010, at Greater Guiding Star Holiness Church at 1114 S. Slocumb St., Goldsboro, with the Rev. Joseph Williams officiating.
He was educated in the Wayne County Public School System and was a member of the Dillard High School Class of 1952. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Lawrence was a faithful employee of Cherry Hospital and retired with 30 years of dutiful service as a health care technician. He was formerly married to Helen Atkinson Gerald, and to that union was born four children.
He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Gerald Sr. of Goldsboro; his children, Sharon Parks of Durham, Lawrence Gerald Jr. (Annette) of Dudley, Cynthia Gerald of Goldsboro, and Maurice Gerald of Durham. He is also survived by eight sisters, Grace Wallace (James) of Upper Marlboro, Md., Yvonne Garvin (Samuel) of Suitland, Md., Annette Jamerson of Goldsboro, Virginia Atkinson (Joe) of Goldsboro, Linda Peters (Pete) of Mitchellville, Md., Joann Davis (Frankie) of Raleigh, Peggy Bennett (Harry) of Virginia Beach, Va., and Sandra Hailstock (Dwight) of Charlotte; two brothers, Robert Gerald (Dollie) of Goldsboro, and Billy Ray Gerald (Sandra) of Clemmons; six grandchildren, one of which he reared (Maurice II); three great-grandchildren; and a multitude of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
A visitation will take place Monday from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the church, after which the E.M. Matthews classic angelic white fleet will escort Mr. Gerald and his precious family to Elmwood Cemetery. There, his mortal remains will be laid to rest on this side of the River Jordan awaiting his Master's call.
