MOUNT OLIVE -- Eva Junghein Byrd, born Sept. 1, 1921, passed away peacefully on Friday evening, Nov. 6, 2009, at Mount Olive Care and Rehabilitation Center.
Funeral services will be held by the graveside on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Byrd Family Cemetery in the Beautancus community. Officiating will be the Rev. Robert Ellis. Friends and family will be received at the Charlie Byrd residence at 215 West Main St. in Mount Olive.
A native German, she was a long-time resident of Mount Olive and was the widow of Elmer Emerson Byrd. She was a proud 1977 magna cum laude graduate of U.N.C. Wilmington, where she earned a bachelor's degree in history. Of the Baptist faith and a former choir member, she attended both the First Baptist of Mount Olive and Bear Marsh Baptist churches.
Mrs. Byrd is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Charlie and Donna Byrd of Mount Olive; her daughter, Recka J. Byrd of Mount Olive; four grandsons, Bart Byrd, Josh Byrd, Jake Byrd and Cole Byrd; and a great-grandson, Andrew Byrd.
