Leslie Ray Capps, 73, 503 Parkwood Lane, Goldsboro, died Thursday evening at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Casey Funeral Home, with the Rev. Harold Anderson, the Rev. Elbert Reeves and main speaker retired Col. Richard Yarboro officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

He was born Aug. 30, 1936, and was the son of the late William Haywood and Fannie Bell Moore Capps. He was married to Mavis Mitchell Capps.

Mr. Capps served in the National Guard for 37 years, where he was shop foreman for Maintenance Shop #15, master sergeant-assignment battalion sergeant for 230 Support Battalion and 30th Infantry Brigade.

He was a member of New Hope Church of God, where he had served as an usher and a trustee.

He is survived by his wife: Mavis "Trudy" Mitchell Capps; sons and daughter-in-law, Terry L. Capps of San Diego, Calif., and Donnie Ray Capps and wife, Earlene, of Princeton; stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Danny Mitchell and wife, Lisa, of Princeton; daughter and son-in-law, Kim Glisson and husband, William, of Rosewood; brothers, Carl Capps of Selma and Roy Capps of Grifton; sisters, Bertha Woodard of Goldsboro, Bettie Hester of Princeton and Peggy Bryant of Selma; and grandchildren, Holly Jeanette and Kelsey Rae Capps, Heather Faye and Kylie Gayle Glisson and Dustin and Dalton Mitchell

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Faye Hill Capps, who passed away in 1992. He was also preceded in death by granddaughter, Sydney Capps; brothers, James Capps, Earl Capps, Bobby Capps and Lonnie Capps; and sister, Pearline Capps Sauls.

Honorary pallbearers will be Marvin Haddock, Spicer Rhodes, James Mitchell, Bobby Sugg, Johnnie McKinney and Mike Spence

Active pallbearers will be Glenn Hester, Jeff Hill, Dean Capps, Shawn Capps, Scott Jones, Jim Matthews and Wayne Mitchell

The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Casey Funeral Home in Princeton and at other times at the home.
