WILMINGTON -- Mattie Davis Johnson, 88, died Sunday at Davis Health Care Center.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Oleander Memorial Gardens, with Dr. June Highfill officiating.
She was born in Fremont Oct. 9, 1920, daughter of the late Henry and Ora Davis.
Mrs. Johnson received her bachelor's degree from East Carolina Teacher's College and taught in the public school system in Wilmington for 42 years.
She was a member of Pearsall Memorial Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are a son, John Johnson of Wilmington; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Davis and Mickie Davis; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles G. Johnson; two brothers, Lewis and Alton Davis; and sisters, Alma Kraus, Gladys Pate, Ruth Joyner and Allean Meador.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Pearsall Memorial Presbyterian Church, 3902 Market St., Wilmington, NC, 28403.
