Died Sept. 12, 2009
John Frank Smith, 81, 1315 Tommy's Road, peacefully slipped away into the arms of his waiting Savior Friday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
The service of triumph and celebration will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Bear Creek Missionary Baptist Association Headquarters, with the Rev. Larry M. Johnson officiating. He will be laid to rest in Barnes Family Cemetery.
He was retired from Cherry Hospital after 30 years of service.
He leaves to cherish fond and loving memories his wife, Cornelia J. Smith of the home; two sons, bishop Alton Avon (Doris) and John Leslie (Teressa) Smith of Goldsboro; two daughters, Betty Jean Smith and Esther Mae Smith of Goldsboro; stepsons, Allen Jr. and Charles Coley of Durham; grandchildren, John Leslie II of Dover, Del., Damesha Ashawn of Goldsboro, Quintina Danielle and Carrie Denise Smith of Greenville, Angel Lee of Atlanta, Ga., Charlenna of Durham, Allena Sheneen of the home and Charles Coley Jr. of Durham; great-grandchildren, John Alex and Julie Ann Smith of Dover, Del.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 2 to 7 p.m. with the family present to receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. at Hamilton Funeral Chapel. At other times, the family will receive friends at the residence, where they will also assemble for the funeral procession.
