MAGGIE M. NEWSOME

Maggie Merritt Newsome, 87, passed away Tuesday Evening at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
A graveside service will be held Thursday at 4 p.m. at Wayne Memorial Park, with the Rev. Willard Hardison and McGee Smith officiating.
She was the daughter of the late Alonza and Minnie Blackwell Merritt and the wife of the late James Newsome.
Mrs. Newsome is survived by two daughters, Ethelene Darden of Goldsboro and Betty Johnson and husband, Charles, of Goldsboro; a son in law, Reid Saunders of Lincolnton; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Newsome was preceded in death by two daughters, Evelyn Saunders and Linda Newsome; eight sisters; and two brothers.
The family will receive friends tonight at the home of Betty and Charles Johnson, 246 West Hill St., Goldsboro.
