CLAYTON -- Peter Hurba, 85, passed away Thursday.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at McLaurin Funeral Home Chapel.
Mr. Hurba, originally from Queens, N.Y., was born July 10, 1923.
He is survived by his son, Gary Hurba and wife, Evelyn, of Clayton; grandsons, Ryan Hurba and wife, Carrie, of Endicott, N.Y., and Craig Hurba of Goldsboro; and great-granddaughter, Kaylee Hurba of Endicott.
He attended Pace University for two years before enlisting in the Army and serving in World War II.
He was happily married to his wife, Elsie, for 54 years.
He spent his life as a commercial artist.
Peter and Elsie took one year off to dance professionally after winning the Harvest Moon Ball in Madison Square Garden in front of 18,250 people on Sept. 3, 1947. The Harvest Moon Ball is ballroom dancing comparative to "Dancing With the Stars." They appeared on the Ed Sullivan TV program in 1947.
The family received relatives and friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at McLaurin Funeral Home Chapel.
