RAYMOND L. HOWELL
June 15, 1915-March 19, 2009
Raymond Lee Howell, 93, a resident of the Pines, passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2009.
Raymond was born in Wayne County on June 15, 1915, to the late Addie Howell and Lizzie Harrell Howell. He was a retired barber having worked with Model Barber Shop in downtown Goldsboro and later was part-owner of Sunrise Barber Shop. Raymond was an active member of First Free Will Baptist Church. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II and was the recipient of the Bronze Star, the Silver Star and the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal Set which included the Army Good Conduct, American Defense Service, American Campaign 1-SE and the Victory, World War II medal. Raymond had also received a commendation from General Mark Clark for bravery under fire while serving his country during World War II.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 10 until 11 a.m. at the First Free Will Baptist Church with services following at 11 a.m. The Rev. John Hill will officiate. Burial will follow in Willow Dale Cemetery.
Raymond is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lois Rogers Howell; his sisters, Flonnie Turner and Eunice Huffman, both of Goldsboro; and his sisters-in-law, Myra Jackson, Helen Ellis, Hilda Howell and Edith Howell, all of Goldsboro. He is also survived by many special nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, David Lee Howell; and his brothers, Murray Stephens "Curley" Howell, Donald Howell and Ronald Howell.
