RUDY C. BARNES
Died Dec. 1, 2006
Rudy C. Barnes, 76, went to be with the Lord on Friday.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Chapel with Dr. Jerry Stephenson and the Rev. Barry Stallings officiating. Interment will follow at Pikeville Cemetery.
Rudy was born in Wayne County to the late Clarence Barnes and Thelma Holland Barnes. He graduated from Nahunta High School and was named best all-around in his class. He was a star basketball player and baseball pitcher. He was also an avid golfer and loved to fish.
Rudy served in the United States Army for two years. During this time he was in the Korean War with the 2nd Infantry division where he fought on the front lines. He was also in charge of publications for the entire Second Infantry Division.
In his early years, Rudy was employed with Griffin's Barbecue, Raynor Wholesale, and Leggett Meyers Tobacco Co. He retired with Lance Inc. as Branch Manager in Jacksonville with 20 years of service. Rudy had also worked at Barnes Diamond Gallery in Jacksonville and Barnes Jewelers in Goldsboro.
Rudy was a member of Pleasant Grove Church of Pikeville, where he was active in the adult choir as long as his health permitted. He was also a member of the Lancaster-Bryan-Talton Sunday School Class, served as a deacon and was member of the Melody Trio.
Rudy was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers; Doyle, W.M., Gaines, and Travis Barnes.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Frances Fields Barnes; his daughter Fran and son-in-law Chet Melvin, of Raleigh; brother Jimmie Barnes and wife, Carol, of Jacksonville; two sisters-in-law, Reba Barnes, of Goldsboro, and Glennie Barnes, of Kenly, several nieces and nephews, a great number of friends, relatives, and loved ones.
Rudy was a wonderful person, full of life, and loved everyone. He will be deeply missed.

The family will receive friends and family Monday at Seymour Funeral Home, 1300 Wayne Memorial Drive, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and other times at the family home.
