PRINCETON - Alene Penny Howell, 85, 887 Ebenezer Church Road, died Sunday at Johnston Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Wayne County to the late Alden and Roxie Gurley Penny. She was the widow of Leamon Edward Howell, Sr. Mrs. Howell was a member of Oakland Friends Meeting and attended Progressive Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of Oakland Grange, Oakland VFD Ladies Auxiliary and the Home Extension Club.

Funeral services will be tonight at 7 at Seymour Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Percy Coleman and the Rev. Rose Hicks officiating. Interment will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Princeton Cemetery.

Mrs. Howell's first love was to the Lord and her church. She was lovingly devoted to her family and friends. She will be remembered for her gentle words, caring thoughts and good deeds.

Mrs. Howell is survived by a daughter Linda "Teensie" Howell of the home; sons, Ed Howell and his wife, Barbara "Bobbie", of Goldsboro, Jack Howell and his wife, Carolyn, of Princeton; her stepfather, Raymond Howell of Durham; sisters, Barbara DeBank and Roxie Jean Reese of Durham; grandchildren, Leamon Edward "Eddie" Howell, III, and wife, Teresa, of Goldsboro, and Jackie Howell Hudson and husband, Jamie, of Dunn; four great-grandchildren, Justin and Chelsey Howell, Madison and Makenzi Hudson; her great-great grandchild, Kyler Howell; step-great-grandchildren, Tiffany Miller and husband, Jason, and Travis Taylor, all of LaGrange; step-great-great-grandchild, Riley Miller

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Bessie Jacobs, Jessie Hall and Evelyn Gardner.

The family would like to extend special thanks to caregiver, Cathy Rodriquez and staff of Johnston Memorial Hospital PCU and 3rd Floor.

The family will receive friends following the service at Seymour Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
