BURNSVILLE -- Floyd Lee Autrey, 83, of McDowell County, died Sunday, at his residence after a long illness. A native of Yancey County, he was the oldest son of nine children born to the late Walter and Dorothy Carroway Autrey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers: Charles, Bobby, Bill and Arthur Autrey and a sister, Mary Lou Autrey. He was former postmaster of Celo post office and part owner of Yancey Sand and Gravel.
Funeral services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home in Burnsville. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Carroway Cemetery.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Bernice Martin Autrey; sons, Jack Autrey and wife, Rachel Shell, of Marion, Don Autrey and wife, Deborah Hines, of Goldsboro, Bobby Autrey and wife, Tami Warren, of Marion; a daughter, Patricia Crowder and husband, Joe, of Marion; four grandchildren, Ryan, Shane, Jennifer and Desiree; two great-grandchildren, Christian and Chelsey; three brothers, Jay Autrey and wife, Robbie, of Burnsville, James Autrey and wife, Shelia, of Waynesville; and a sister, Flossie McMahan and husband, Marshall, of Cornelia, Ga.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of McDowell County, 575 Airport Road, Marion, 28752.
