BOYDTON, Va. -- John Douglas Bevell, 74, passed away Monday at his home.
A celebration of life ceremony will be held at Boydton Baptist Church Cemetery Thursday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Harold Manning officiating and a eulogy by Lawrence "Rat" Davis.
Mr. Bevell was born in Boydton July 16, 1932, the oldest child of the late Allen J. and Gladys Hite Bevell. He was the widower of Ann Wood Bevell, who passed away in 1988.
He was predeceased by a sister, Jeannette B. Arnold.
He was a graduate of Boydton High School and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Lynchburg College and a master's degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. He taught school in Mecklenburg County School System and was president of John D. Bevell Inc. Insurance Agency from 1959 until the present and was a member of key club Utica Mutual Insurance Co.
Survivors include sons, Doug Bevell of Wilmington, Dane Bevell of Boydton; two grandchildren; brother, Gary Bevell of Goldsboro; sisters, Jewel B. Fields of Richmond and Glenna B. Smith of Atlanta, Ga..
The viewing will be held Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wood Funeral Service of Chase City, Va.
