MOUNT OLIVE -- Jimmy Ray "Shag" Best, 61, 183 Jim Best Road, died Saturday at his home.

The funeral will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken Powell and the Rev. Geoffrey A. Carter officiating. A graveside service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park.

Born in Duplin County, he was the son of the late John Erman and Julia E. Bell Best. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lucille Dail and Louise Moginzo.

A veteran of the Army, he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion in Mount Olive. He was employed as a millwright for Murphy-Brown in the maintenance department.

He is survived by his wife, Glenda Gail Taylor Best; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey Ray and Jenny Best of Mount Olive; a daughter, Angela Gail Best and fiancé, Dustin Bowden, of Mount Olive; three brothers, Elwood Best, Mickey Best and Dallas Best of Mount Olive; a sister, Christine Best of Goldsboro; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service at Shumate-Fualk Funeral Home. At other times, they will be at the home, 183 Jim Best Road, Mount Olive.
