WINFRED HEATH

KINSTON -- Winfred Allan Heath, 71, of 1013 Harvey Circle, Kinston, died Monday, July 24, 2006. Friends and family are invited to attend his memorial service at Gordon Street Christian Church at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 27, 2006, with the Reverend Mark Benson officiating.
Allan was born December 5, 1934, in Kinston, North Carolina, son of Winfred Amos Heath and Fannie Calhoun Heath. After graduating from Grainger High School in June of 1954, he attended North Carolina State University where he participated in ROTC and graduated with degrees in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering. Receiving a ROTC commission as Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force, he was stationed at Luke Air Force Base in Phoenix, Arizona for four Years. Allan worked thirty years for E.I. Dupont de Nemours, primarily in Kinston. Following his retirement he owned and operated Heritage Lamps in Kinston until his death.
Allan was a member of Gordon Street Christian Church in Kinston, where he served as a deacon, worked with the youth, and served on various committees. He was the Scoutmaster of Troop 41 at Gordon Street from 1964 to 1969 and from 1974 to 1978.
Allan was a "Frank Mock Boy" and captain of the football team for several championship seasons at Grainger High. He continued all of his life to stay in contact with teammates as well as many other childhood friends.
Regarded with great respect by those with whom he worked, Allan was an inspiration to many youth, and appreciated by those whom he assisted in the small lamp shop. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, fishing and crabbing at his Neuse River home.
Allan is survived by his wife and childhood sweetheart, Joanne May Heath; his daughter, Elizabeth "Beth" Anne Heath, and husband, Bennett Wynne, of Kinston, North Carolina; his son, Jonathan Allan Heath, and wife, Lori Rawls Heath, of Greenville, North Carolina; his brother, Tracy Glen Heath, and his wife, Rhonda Heath, of Walnut Cove, North Carolina; his grand children, Haley Brooke Heath, Drake Allan Heath, and Elizabeth Allan Wynne; and his nephew, Dane Allen Heath, and wife, Amy Heath, and their children, Cameron and Zachary, of King, North Carolina.
The family will receive friends after the Memorial Service at Gordon Street Christian Church and at other times at the home, 1013 Harvey Circle, Kinston.
