LIMON W. TURNER

Limon William "Mutt" Turner, 84, of 402 Scott's Store Road, Mount Olive, died Saturday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

A Wayne County native, he was the son of the late Walter Lee and Mattie Jernigan Turner and father of the late Landis Turner. He served in the United States Army during World War II, assigned to Company K, 323rd Infantry, and was a recipient of the American Theater Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Service Star, the WWII Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Andrews Turner; three sons, Limon Allen Turner of Ozark, Ala., Daryle C. Turner of Goldsboro, and Cary E. Turner of Mount Olive; one daughter, Connie Turner Wiggins of Calypso; two stepsons, Lee Gates of Laurens, S.C., and Dick Gates of Syracuse, N.Y.; one sister, Magdalene Hall of Mount Olive; and 26 grandchildren and 48 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Maplewood Cemetery in Mount Olive. Lathan Wiggins will preside, and the family will greet friends afterward. At other times the family will be at the home of Cary and Janet Turner, 548 Pettifoot Road, Mount Olive, 28365.

Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home & Crematory is serving the family.
