Walter Johnson Jr., 72, of 711 N. Georgia Ave., died Sunday at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville from injuries received in an automobile accident.

The funeral will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home. Pastor Steve Jones and the Rev. Pete Radford will officiate. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

Mr. Johnson was a Johnston County native and was the son of the late Charlie W. and Lillian R. Pearce Johnson. He was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps and was a recipient of the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He attended Belfast Pentecostal Holiness Church and was a member of the Goldsboro Moose Lodge.

He is survived his wife of 51 years, Betty Louise Radford Johnson; four daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and David Dixon of Dudley, Roshelle and Donald McCullen of Goldsboro, Teresa and Paul Radford of Princeton, Wanda Johnson and special friend, Michael Hinnant, of Goldsboro; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Melva Ipock of Goldsboro, Jo Ann and David Kascsak of Goldsboro, Sonja and Slack Seymour of Belle, Mo.; a sister-in-law, Pat Johnson of Virginia Beach, Va.; one uncle, James Pearce of Princeton; 10 grandchildren, Donna and Paul Lucas of Goldsboro, Buck and Beth Culbreth of Dudley, Dr. Dave Dixon and special friend, Dr. Jennifer Crist, of Asheville, Donnie and Jenny McCullen of Grantham, William and Cassey Culbreth of Goldsboro, Kelly Johnson of Raleigh, John Short of Pikeville, Glory Radford of Pikeville, Bobby Hinnant of Goldsboro and Gracie Hinnant of Goldsboro; and eight great-grandchildren, Nathan Lucas, Elijah Lucas, Andon Culbreth, Teresa Renae Holland, Amber Lucas, Brittany Lucas, Laci Paul Radford and Morgan Radford.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, C.L. Johnson and James Glenn Johnson; and two sisters, Lucille Woodard and Frances Waters.

Family members will greet friends Thursday from 6 until 9 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, and at other times at the residence.
