JERRY HONN
April 30, 1936-May 3, 2006
Retired United States Marine Corps Master Sergeant Gerald Edward "Jerry" Honn, 70, of 925 Vail Road, died Wednesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Honn was born in Bradley, Ill., to the late Joseph George Honn and Pearl Geneva Wheeler Honn and was married to Dolores White Honn. He was owner of Jerry's Lawn and Grounds Maintenance Service.
During his 20 years of service to his country, he was awarded the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal with Silver Star, the National Defense Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, the Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon with Star, the Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Stars, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He spent two years in Vietnam, serving with the 1st Battalion, 26th Marines, 5th Marine Division His last five months in Vietnam was at Khe Sanh in 1968.
After retiring from the Marine Corps in 1974, Mr. Honn moved his family from New River Air Station in Jacksonville to Goldsboro. He earned a degree in turf management from Wayne Community College
Recently, he became very interested in the arts and began painting with the Soul's Palette, a special group formed to nurture the emotional needs of patients who have serious, chronic illnesses through Southeastern Medical Oncology Center.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 13, at 2 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home with the Reverend Dr. Don Sauls and the Rev. Tom Norris, O.S.F.S., presiding. A graveside service with full military honors will be held at a later date at Main Street Cemetery in Hardwick, Vermont.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Gerald E. "Jed" Honn and his wife, Joanne, of Goldsboro, and Gregory A. Honn of Florida; one sister, Donna Krizan of Odessa, Fla.; two brothers and their wives, J. Michael Honn and Jan of Kankakee, Ill., and James K. Honn and Anita of Gilman, Ill.,; and two grandchildren, Emily Madison Honn and Brittany Honn.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Honn, and a sister, Joyce Honn.

The family will receive friends at Seymour Funeral Home following the memorial service on Saturday, and other times at the residence.
