FREMONT -- Mattie Newsome, 89, of 421 Bogue Road in Fremont died Thursday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Barnes Primitive Baptist Church, 339 Watery Branch Church Road in Stantonsburg. The Rev. Billy Newton will officiate. Burial will follow in the Turner Swamp Cemetery in Eureka.
She is survived by daughter Mary N. Day of the home; stepdaughter Margalene Woodard of Wilson; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
A viewing was held Saturday at Hamilton Funeral Chapel in Wilson.
