LT. COL. JAMES JONES
Died April 5, 2006
Lt. Col. James T. Jones, 70, of Seven Springs, died Wednesday at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville.
He retired from the United States Air Force in 1976 with approximately 7,000 hours of flying time, 5,000 of which were logged as an instructor pilot and flight examiner. From 1965 until 1966, he was assigned to the Republic of Vietnam, where he flew more than 300 combat missions. He was awarded the Bronze Star, the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Silver Star, and the Air Medal with 13 Oak Leaf Clusters.
After he retired from the military, he worked over 15 years with the Lenoir County Farm Service Agency.
He is survived by his wife of more than 50 years, Jean B. Jones; daughters, Michele Waller of Kinston, Angie Melton of Seven Springs and Gena Jones of Seven Springs; his grandchildren, Blake and Jay Burkett of Dover, Luke Waller of Kinston, and Adam and Erin Jones of Seven Springs; one sister, Nancy Davis of Kinston; and one brother, George Allen Jones of Seven Springs.
The funeral will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Rouse Funeral Home in LaGrange. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Holy Innocents Episcopal Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 6 until 8 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home, and at other times at the residence.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Holy Innocents Episcopal Church.
