George Lane, 88, of 203 S. Leslie St., died Saturday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at St. James A.M.E. Zion Church in Goldsboro. The Rev. Dwight B. Cannon will officiate. Burial will be in Carolina Biblical Gardens in Garner.
Mr. Lane sold produce and was often referred to as "the watermelon man" and "the cantaloupe man."
He is survived by one daughter, Laverne Lane of Raleigh; three grandchildren, Joselyn W. Tyler, Deborah L. Holt and Joseph H. Holt III of Raleigh; and two sisters, Jessie Pearl Lane of Florida and Eliza Dawkins of Hyde Park, Mass.
The viewing hours will be from 3 until 7 p.m. on Thursday at Hamilton Funeral Chapel.
