KENLY -- The funeral for Joseph L. "J.L." Creech Jr., 72, will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at Holly Springs Free Will Baptist Church. The Rev. Curtis Jones and the Rev. Danny Creech will officiate and Bryan Martin will deliver the eulogy. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Creech died Monday at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Smithfield.
He was a Johnston County native and was the son of the late Leonard and Pearly Narron Creech. He retired from the Johnston County Schools with 41 years of service. He was the principal at Smithfield Elementary School for 23 years, was named Principal of the Year and was twice named Administrator of the Year. He had served as president of the Principal's Association and of Johnston County Chapter of the North Carolina Association of Educators.
He was a member at Holly Springs Free Will Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and was former chairman of the board of deacons.
He is survived by his wife, Elgie Weaver Creech; one daughter, Tammy Atkinson; three sisters, Rector Godwin and Dianne Boyette of Kenly and Mildred Forbes of California; three brothers, the Rev. Braxton Creech and Lexter Creech of Kenly and Dr. Jan Creech of Micro; and two grandsons;
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 at Holly Springs Free Will Baptist Church
