KINSTON -- Henry B. "Pete" Herring, Sr., 87, of 4765 U.S. 70 West, died Thursday at his home.
The funeral will be held by the graveside on Saturday morning at 11 at Pinelawn Memorial Park. The Rev. Haywood Smith will conduct the service.
Mr. Herring was the son of the late Henry Loftin and Ozora Creech Herring and the widower of Charlotte M. Herring. He graduated from the Darlington School in Rome, Ga. and attended Oak Ridge Military Academy. He was a farmer and U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of LaGrange United Methodist Church, the American Legion, where he served as Post Commander, and the Forty and Eight.
He is survived by one daughter Mary Margaret Patton of Raleigh; two sons, James C. Herring of Kinston and Gary A. Herring of Winston-Salem; and eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 at Edwards Funeral Home.
