The funeral for James Verna Best, of 5801 Hwy. 70 East, will be held Thursday at noon at Best Grove Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Joe A. Jackson will officiate. Burial will be in the Best Family Cemetery.
Mr. Best is survived by his wife, Thelma Best of the home; three sons, Milton Best of Riverdale, Ga., Jefforey Best of California and Larry Taylor of Kinston; two daughters, Delbra Best and Janice McConica of Charlotte; four brothers, Ralph Best of Goldsboro, Houston Best of Jacksonville, N.C., Paul Best of Gary, Ind., and Theordric Best of Charlottesville, Md.; and two sisters, Ernestine Thompson of Washington, D.C., and Evelyn Parrish of Milford, Del; and 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The viewing hours will be from 2 until 7 today at Lightner Memorial Funeral Home, and the family will be present to greet friends from 6 until 7 p.m.
