SMITHFIELD -- Ed Strickland died Tuesday at Johnston Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon at 1 at the First Advent Christian Church of Four Oaks. Burial will be in Hills of Neuse Memory Gardens.

Mr. Strickland was a Johnston County native and was the son of the late William Archie and Della Blackmon Strickland. He owned and operated Strickland's Open Air Market for 32 years and had co-owned Magic Tunnel Car Wash since 1984. He was a member and deacon at the First Advent Christian Church and was a member of the Smithfield Lions Club for 47 years, having served two terms as its president. The NC Lions Foundation presented him the Jack Stickley Fellow Award for dedicated humanitarian services.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "Lib" Lamm Strickland; one daughter, Dianne Holland of Four Oaks; four sons, Randy W. McLeod of Smithfield, Len McLeod of Garner, Dennis W. McLeod of Four Oaks and Needham Edward "Eddie" Strickland II of Clayton; one sister, Carol Buchanan of Four Oaks; one brother, Tommy Strickland of Clayton; and 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 at Minshew Funeral Home in Four Oaks, and at other times at the residence.
