MATTIE MINSHEW

WARSAW -- Mattie Strickland Minshew, age 82, passed away early Wednesday morning, January 25, 2006, at Sampson Regional Medical Center in Clinton.
Born April 11, 1923, in Kenansville to the late Mr. Arthur J. and Myrtle G. Strickland, Mrs. Minshew was also preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Belton D. Minshew; her son, Mr. Bradley Belton Minshew, and wife, Mrs. Nell Joyner Minshew; daughter-in-law, Mrs. Willie Minshew; and sisters, Verna Strickland Ramsey and Lula Mae Strickland.
Mrs. Minshew, after moving to Warsaw in 1940, and being a very active member of Warsaw United Methodist Church since March of 1994, served on the Administrative Board, Council on Ministries, Lay Leader to Annual Conference, Financial Secretary for two years, Pastor Staff Committee and Sunday School Teacher. She received the Life Membership Pin and Sapphire Membership Pin for serving on the Goldsboro District, served as President of United Methodist Women and Circle Chairman. Mrs. Minshew was employed by United Carolina Bank in Kenansville for 34 years, retiring in 1991. She was a former member of the National Association of Bank Women.
Surviving are two sons, Mr. Arthur Minshew of Warsaw and Mr. Kenneth Lee Minshew and wife, Pam Minshew, of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Don and Libby Ratliff of Johnson City, Tenn., Randy and Teresa DeMarco of North Topsail Beach, Thomas and Shelby Johnson of Charlotte, Justin Minshew and Gentry Minshew of Goldsboro; and great-grandchildren, Catherine Ratliff, Tommy Johnson, Lindsey Johnson and Alexander Bradley DeMarco.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, January 27, 2006, at Warsaw United Methodist Church, located at the corner of North Pine Street (Highway 117 North) and 107 West Plank Street, Warsaw. Rev. Henry Swanzy will officiate. Burial will follow at Devotional Gardens, Highway 24/50 East, Warsaw.
Visitation will be from 7 until 9 p.m. Thursday, January 26, 2006, at Warsaw United Methodist Church, 107 West Plank Street, Warsaw. Family and friends will be received at other times at the 319 East Hill Street Warsaw home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Warsaw United Methodist Church, Post Office Box 442, Warsaw, North Carolina, 28398.
