Edna Gurley Thomas, 87, of 1455 N.C. 581 N., died Thursday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
A native of Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late William E. Gurley and Jenny Crocker Gurley, and was married to the late Cooper Thomas.
Mrs. Thomas had attended Atlantic Christian College. She was a farmer in the Nahunta community and later worked with Nahunta Pork Center as a bookkeeper for 20 years. Mrs. Thomas was a member of Nahunta Friends Church.
A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday at Nahunta Friends Church. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.
She is survived by her daughter, Betsy Woodruff and husband, Martin, of West Jefferson; her sons, Jimmy Thomas and wife, Barbara, of Pikeville and Donald Thomas and wife, Carolyn, of Goldsboro; her grandchildren, Buddy Thomas, Kim Thomas, Donna Graham and husband, David, Paula Foley and husband, Eric, Corey Thomas and Donnie Thomas; eight great-grandchildren and six nieces and one nephew.
Although flowers are welcome, memorials may be made to Nahunta Friends Church Building Fund, Pikeville, N.C., 27863.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:30 until 3 p.m. at Nahunta Friends Church and other times at the home.
