LAGRANGE -- J.B. Hart, Jr., 79, died Sunday at his home.
The funeral will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Fort Run Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church. The Reverends Larry Turlington and Leon Hawleywill officiate. Committal services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Snow Hill Cemetery
Mr. Hart was a native of Greene County and was the son of the late Johnny B. Hart and Celia Howell Hart. He was a retired tobacco farmer and a United States Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Fort Run Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, where he served in many capacities and church offices. He was one of the primary members of the Hart Family Gospel Singers and performed throughout North Carolina and other states over the years.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Hart was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Hart, and three brothers, Wilbert Hart, Bruce Hart and Billy Hart.
His surviving family includes his wife of 60 years, Bettie Arthur Mooring Hart; sons and daughters, Kay H. Quinn and husband, Doug, of Charlotte; Kenneth Hart and wife, Sharon, of Willow Springs; Jean H. Harper and husband, Harold, of Snow Hill; Ricky Hart and wife, Randy, of Snow Hill; Peggy H. Chase and husband, Dennis, of Snow Hill; Steve Hart of LaGrange; Michael Hart and wife, Chrystal, of Pikeville; Sherry Arnette of Pikeville; Terry H. Wilson and husband, John, of Goldsboro; and Christy H. Hollingsworth and husband, Carl, of LaGrange; a brother, Delma Hart and wife, Ann, of Snow Hill; sisters, Verna H. Vaughan, Mary H. Tripplett and Helen H. Hill and husband, Envid, all of Snow Hill; grandchildren, Chris Quinn and wife, Maria; Paul Quinn and wife, Sheri; Shannon Burch and husband, Danny; Jonathan Hart and wife, Natalie; Brandon Harper, Candace Harper, Ritchie Hart, Matt Hart, Carly Hart, Derek Chase, Devin Chase, Paige Chase, Justin Hart and wife, Lisa; Stephanie Hart, Ashley Arnette, Garrett Arnette, April Wilson, Brittney Wilson, Cianna Wilson, Destiny Wilson and Christopher Edwards; and great-grandchildren, Payton Quinn, Alex Burch, Miranda Burch, Kirstin Burch and Taylor Hart.
The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service on Wednesday, and other times at the residence, 2082 Oakdale Road, LaGrange.
