WINSTON-SALEM -- Bessie Lee Beaty, 99, died Wednesday, Dec. 14.
She taught school in Duplin County for over 40 years and, during retirement, served as a substitute teacher in the Forsyth County School System. A native of York County, S.C., she was the daughter of John and Anna Beaty. She graduated from Winston-Salem Teachers College and did post graduate work at Hampton Institute and New York University.
Her survivors include two sisters, Nannie Gunning and Teretha Millner; one brother, William Beaty;
The funeral was held Saturday, Dec. 17, at 1 p.m. at Goler Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church. Burial was on Sunday, Dec. 18, at Liberty Hill A.M.E. Zion Church in Lake Wylie, S.C.
Russell Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
