George Raymond Sasser, 79, of 102 Farm Club Road, died Sunday at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.
The funeral will be held tonight at 7 in the chapel of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro. The Reverend Richard N. Williford II and Reverend Ira Williford will officiate. A graveside service with military honors will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Pate Family Cemetery.
Mr. Sasser was born in Wayne County to the late Joseph Sasser and Pearl Pate Sasser. He was a charter member of United In Christ Church in Goldsboro. He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II. He was the former owner and operator of the Gulf Service Center in Goldsboro and Generator and Starter Service on Center Street. He also was a former supervisor with Burlington Manufacturing Company of Goldsboro and was an avid fisherman.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine Sasser; one son, Randy Sasser of Patetown; one daughter, Jenny Garris and her husband, Tony, of Patetown; and two grandchildren, Cody Garris and Jake Garris.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Sasser was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Roland Sasser.
The family will receive friends at Howell Funeral Home following the service tonight, and other times at the residence.
