James "Jimmy" Lamont Herring Jr., 52, of 637 Grantham School Road in the Grantham community, died Thursday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 7 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Frank Purvis and the Rev. Marty Gurganus officiating. Interment will be on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Wayne Memorial Park.
Mr. Herring was born in Wayne County and was the son of Lamont Herring of Goldsboro and the late Carol Herring. He was an avid fisherman and was a Carolina Panthers and NASCAR racing fan.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Sandra Thompson Herring of the home; his daughters, April Harrell and her husband, Brian, of Grantham and Carrie Lynn Herring of the home; his brothers, Thomas Herring and wife, Sara of Grantham, Jon Herring of Lithia, Fla., and David Herring of Goldsboro; his sister, Vivian Worley of Dudley; his mother-in-law, Colene Thompson of the home; and several very special nieces and nephews.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Esten and Gladys Herring.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 930-B Wellness Drive, Greenville, N.C., 27834.
The family will receive friends at Seymour Funeral Home following the service on Saturday, and at other times at the residence.
