PIKEVILLE -- Irving Michael Fornecker, 89, of 111 Graceland Lane, died Saturday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph United Methodist Church in Pikeville. The Rev. Bryan Huffman will officiate. Burial will follow in the Pikeville Cemetery.
Mr. Fornecker was born in Jefferson County, Wis.., on Jan. 12, 1916, to the late Albert and Mathilda Popp Fornecker. He was a member of St. Joseph United Methodist Church where he served as chairman of the administrative church board, taught Sunday School for over 30 years and was a musician in the church.
He was a former teacher at Pikeville High School and retired from Charles B. Aycock High School. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps. While stationed at Ashford General Hospital in White Sulfur Springs, W. Va., he served as General Eisenhower's fishing guide. Mr. Fornecker was an avid hunter, fisherman and musician. He played in jazz bands in many areas of North Carolina throughout his life.
He is survived by his wife, Ollie Fleming Fornecker; two sons, Mike Fornecker and wife, Janelle, of Kings Mountain and Gary Fornecker and wife, Jeanie, of Goldsboro; one brother, Edward Fornecker of Jefferson, Wis..; and five grandchildren, Ben, Kay, Joe, Sam and Mitch Fornecker.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Fornecker was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Fornecker.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 7 until 8:30 at Shackleford-Howell Funeral Home, 102 N. Pine St., Fremont, and other times at the residence.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Joseph United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 43, Pikeville, N.C., 27863.
The family is being served by Shackleford-Howell Fun-eral Home in Fremont.
