KENLY -- Jesse Alton Grant Sr., 83, of 643 Boswell Road, died Tuesday at his home.
The funeral will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Shackleford-Howell Funeral Home in Fremont. Pastor William "Bill" Braswell and the Rev. R. N. Williford will officiate.
Mr. Grant was born in Greene County to the late Oscar Grant and Matilda Rouse Grant. He was a member of Lucama Church of God and a veteran of the United States Army having received the Purple Heart Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred Grant; one son, Roger Grant and his wife, Trudy, of Kenly; one brother, Wilber "Shorty" Grant and his wife, Margie, of Goldsboro; two sisters, Nina Mae Grant of Florida and Lois Garris of Goldsboro; six grandchildren, Lisa Carter and her husband, Burl, Lynn Grant, Tanya Byrd and her husband, Tim, Tabitha Grant, Billy Steen and Chris Crowly and his wife, Cindy; and nine great-grandchildren, Zachery, Austin, Carlie, Logan, Chloe, Jonathan, Ashley, Kristin and Christopher.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Grant was preceded in death by one son, Jesse Grant Jr.; and two brothers, Oscar Grant and Bill Grant.
The family will receive friends following the service Thursday evening at Shackleford-Howell Funeral Home in Fremont and other times at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Trudy Grant at 586 Boswell Road in Kenly.
