SNOW HILL -- Ernest Barnes "E.B." Chase Jr., 82, died Friday at Britthaven of Snow Hill.
A native of Greene County, Mr. Chase was born to the late, Ernest B. Chase Sr. and Stella Hart Chase. He was a graduate of the Shine School and was a retired tobacco farmer. Mr. Chase was a charter member and dedicated volunteer in helping establish the Shine Volunteer Fire Department.
A graveside service will be held 3 p.m. today at the Snow Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Ned Sauls officiating.
Mr. Chase was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma "Teny" Taylor Chase.
He is survived by his children, Sheila Chase Coltrane and husband, Lynny, of Snow Hill, Ernie Chase and wife, Javita, of Fremont and Michael Chase and wife, Ellen, of Snow Hill; two sisters, Anna Belle Mooring of Snow Hill and Francis Sauls of Eureka; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery. Mr. Chase will lie in state today from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. prior to the service at Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service.
