Mary "Pete" Best Bass, 85, died Tuesday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
Born in Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Aaron & Maddie West Best and the wife of the late Oscar Bass. She was a cashier with the former George Street Grocery for over 20 years.
A graveside funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Thursday at the Elmwood Cemetery in Fremont. The Rev. Johnny Sasser will officiate.
She is survived by her sister in law, Marie Best of Goldsboro; a brother, Ray Best of Dudley; a sister, Jeffie Rains of Wilson; step-sister, Bernice Taylor of Goldsboro; and many nieces & nephews.
The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 7 until 9 pm at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home.
