Viola King Evans, 91, died Friday at Duke Health Raleigh Hospital.
Born in Johnston County on Aug. 31, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Edward Lawrence and Cynthia Braswell King.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Theodore W. "Woody" Evans. She was a member of the Smithfield First Free Will Baptist Church.
A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. today in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home in Selma. Dr. Sam Weeks will officiate. Burial will follow in the cemetery at Hephzibah Baptist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Judy Gower and husband, Wilton, of Raleigh; a son, Danny Evans and wife, LaNell, of Goldsboro; two granddaughters, Cynthia Ransom and husband, Steve, of Raleigh, Natalie Ira of Goldsboro; three great-grandsons, Jonathan and Joshua Ransom of Raleigh, and Dalton Ira of Goldsboro.
The family will receive friends at Parrish Funeral Home in Selma today from 2 until 3 p.m.
