Edward Earl "Ed" Mercer, 72, of 129 Saltonstall Street, #110, Canandaigua, NY, formerly of Kinston, died Thursday at Strong Hospital in Rochester, N.Y.
The funeral will be held Tuesday morning at 10 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on Carey Road. Bishop Jeff Howard will officiate. Burial will be in Pinelawn Memorial Park.
Mr. Mercer served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 through 1960 as a Ship's Serviceman, Third Class, and received two stars for his Korean service. He was a retired truck driver with Tidewater Transit and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where he served as High Priest.
He was preceded in death by his wife Peggy Efird Mercer; his parents, James Monroe Mercer and Sarah Davis Mercer Bass.
Survivors include his daughters, Pamela M. Moody of Deep Run and Patricia M. Nichols of the home; one sister, Barbara Jean Bishop of Goldsboro, three brothers, Lloyd D. Mercer of Madison, Tenn., Charles L. Mercer of Goldsboro and Bobby G. Mercer of Wake Forest; and two step-granddaughters.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 at Garner Funeral Home, and other times at the home of Mark and Rebecca Jones, 2931 Ravenwood Drive, Kinston.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to one's local hospice center.
