Former Goldsboro resident

John "Richard" Brinson died last Thursday in Bristol, Tenn.

He was born on Nov. 12, 1966, in Mount Olive and grew up in Goldsboro. He was a member of St. John Original Free Will Baptist Church and attended Wayne County Public Schools. He received certification as a heavy-equipment operator from Earl C. Clemmons Job Corps Center in Morganfield, Ky., and worked in construction in several states.

He is survived by his father and stepmother, Robert and Flora Brinson Jr. of the home; his mother, Sally Whitley of Mount Olive; five sons, Demarcus Davis and Travis Brinson of Goldsboro, John Richard Brinson Jr. and Christopher Brinson of Fresno, Calif., and Omarion Lockhart of Chesterfield, Va.; two daughters, Florrena Brinson and Sharrecka Brinson of Goldsboro; two brothers, Christopher Brinson of Wilmington and John Winn of Wilson; four sisters, Anna Teres Brinson of Chesterfield, Va., Cathfeen James of Clinton, Montique Chance of Austin, Texas and Senaria Bridges of Atlanta, Ga.; his grandmothers, Clyde Brinson of Dudley and Bessie Garner of Mount Olive; and two grandchildren.

The funeral will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. John Original Free Will Baptist Church. Elder Edmond Edwards will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

The viewing will be today from 3 until 6 at McIntyre Funeral Home.
